A long driveway curves beneath a California live oak tree that has been standing much longer than this home itself, crafted in 1940 as a gorgeous example of Spanish Revival architecture. Red clay tile spills over the roofline, while the trees cast their shadows against a white stucco facade, brilliant in the afternoon light. The interior is a true marvel of 19th century craftsmanship: box beams, wainscoting, thick casing, and honey-colored herringbone floors. A brick hearth anchors the living room between leaded-glass cabinets that glint when the firelight catches. Pour a glass of whisky and sink in. French doors fold back to a dining room with a built-in hutch and beveled mirror. Host Sunday dinners here, and your guests will never want to leave. …
